Each team is divided into classes, with each member having access to certain weapons and gadgets. They should all feel familiar to FPS veterans — medics can heal their teammates with a pep-talk through a megaphone, snipers can set traps and lay in wait for their enemies and the hulking explosives expert is slow but can take the most damage. Being able to grapple up to raised platforms, double-jump with inflatable balloon shoes and swoop down from the skies with a glider opens up each level vertically, meaning you have to keep on your toes as an attack could come from any angle. Level variety is mixed at best. The brightly lit Amusement Mile is a real highlight, but others are more generic and dull. Like almost every modern FPS, there are obligatory experience and unlock systems to encourage gamers to keep playing. There are a huge number of items to unlock, from weapons, modifications and camouflage patterns to character types, costumes and gadgets, but progress is painfully slow. Every rank increase rewards you with at least one unlock token, but the more you progress the longer it takes between levels. Even with dedicated servers, we noticed a lot of lag in certain games, if we could get into them at all. Matchmaking forces you into groups, but with no way to switch sides if someone leaves, matches often dissolve into a game of cat and mouse as the last remaining player hides from six enemies.
Gotham City Impostors review
Egregious DRM and poor matchmaking mar an otherwise surprisingly fun and accessible multiplayer Gotham City Imposters is a lot fun, very enjoyable, but a little buggy when matchmaking. It is not going to appeal to fans of realistic FPS’ and there are limitations in terms of gameplay given that it is predominantly an online fps and nothing more. If you’ve caught a nasty case of first-person-shooter fatigue, you might be wondering what the genre needs to do to reignite your interest.

Skip to Content. Based on DC Comics characters, this cartoon shooter is a tale of good versus evil. But combat is the name of the game — with lots of weapons, explosives, and other gadgets used to destroy the other team –so it doesn’t have a very positive message. Plus, gamers can play as the good guys or the bad guys. One team has people dressed as Batman, who is a positive role model for the most part, but the other team has people dressed as the malevolent The Joker.
But even the “positive” role models are determined to kill off the other team, so it’s not the best example of a positive role model here, even if it is to defeat evil. This digital download is quite easy to pick up and play, given the simplified controls and tutorial information.

Checking for downloadable content Class-based shooter Gotham City Impostors snuck out of Warner’s back door earlier this week, which strikes you as unusual for a first-person shooter based on one of the biggest licenses around and made by Monolith, developers of Condemned and FEAR.
but I had a lot of fun with Gotham City Impostors when it came out for PS3. couple months, the hype decreased gradually and its matchmaking just went to shit. If I recall correctly it would take forever to join a game, and because of that it depression over how things are right now, and this helped take my mind off of it.
It was released February 8, for MSP. The Dark Knight has finally hit his stride in video games with the award-winning hits Arkham Asylum and, more recently, Arkham City. While these games offered amazing single-player experiences, both through revolutionary gameplay and engaging stories, they have also steered away from any multiplayer experience. Gotham City Impostors trades Batarangs and dark atmosphere for guns and crazy humor. While matchmaking can be a pain, this six-on-six comedy shooter has some of the best action on XBLA.
So much customization — Gotham City Impostors has loads upon loads of customization options. Every time you level up you get a free unlock for a specific category, such as weapon or support item.

Gotham City Impostors stands head and shoulders with every other big-box F.E.A.R. and Condemned developer Monolith takes the Batman series No One Lives Forever, Monolith successfully marries Gotham Right now, if there’s one blemish on the proceedings, it’s the matchmaking and net code.
I hope they implement more character factions beyond Batman and Joker. Here is the trailer from E3. I have to say it looks better than I thought it would. HA HA Depends on the release date. Thanks for posting the vid. It is on XBLA so it won’t be that expensive. Ask Blacklight Tango Down. If you build it, they will come. Another vid from E3. I have to say that this is on my buy list for now.

Is the matchmaking really bad…
Score Distribution 9. PC Gamer. Duncan Geere — Apr 06, In short, there’s little way for a community to form around the game — and unless that’s rectified, then there’s little long-term hope for Gotham City Imposters. Which is a shame, because it’s fun.

Had I told you 3 years ago that a Batman first person shooter was being developed, you likely would have scoffed. But Rocksteady’s Arkham games have paved the road for successful, smaller games with the Batman name. That’s where developer Monolith stepped in with Gotham City Impostors. Can it make the transition into the competitive downloadable space, and is the game worth your money? There’s nothing sadder than having to start a review discussing the myriad of technical problems that plague a game such as this.
Gotham City Impostors seemingly is a game that has not been properly optimized for a mass PC audience. Gamers with both ATI cards and nVidia graphics cards, myself included, have encountered major, game-breaking technical issues. Most glaringly, issues with frame-rate are immediately obvious as soon as the player starts any gameplay mode: from the 3 multiplayer modes to the single player Challenge Mode, and the cinematic, quirky Initiation.
The effects were less than stellar. After reducing resolution and video settings, the frame-rate saw improvement, but not enough to make the game any more playable.
Gotham City Impostors
More so than any of Batman’s various forms over the ages, Gotham City Impostors seems to harbour most of its influences from the Adam West era, with slapstick noises, goofy humour and corny dialogue taken straight out of the s. I’m actually surprised “Pow” and “Thwack” aren’t plastered over the screen when you hit somebody, though with the way Monolith and Warner Bros have assembled their goofy creation I imagine there’s already plans to flog that down the line as premium DLC.
Sold for a skimpy Microsoft Points, Gotham City Impostors’ initial charge is clearly intended to be your first of many. But can an unpalatable focus on shaking its players until money falls out be enough to completely cripple a six-versus-six online shooter?
Gotham City Impostors is a new take on the superhero genre. –Matchmaking and load times are an issue which I am not worried about Since you had to make everything from scratch, how long did the whole development process take?
A free-to-play version of Gotham City Impostors apparently launched very quietly on Steam yesterday. What’s curious is there seems to be zero official word from Monolith or publisher Warner Bros. Interactive on the matter. What’s more, the game appeared as an unofficial listing on Steam’s Open Steamworks database earlier this week. There are downloadable content packs listed on impostors ‘ Steam page too, although the price list looks oddly incomplete.
It very much seems the game launched accidentally, but it’s definitely there. We’re downloading it right now, and people are playing it. We’ve reached out to Warner Bros. Interactive for comment.
